THIRTEEN CHICAGO KIDS FROM SOUTH-SIDE TRACK CLUB ADVANCE TO USATF HERSHEY NATIONAL JUNIOR OLYMPIC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS


CHICAGO, IL (July. 10, 2018) – All roads are leading to Greensboro, North Carolina as thirteen southside youth ages 8-16 are now one step closer to becoming National USA Track and Field Junior Olympians.


Members of Woodlawn-based Saints Track Club dominated in Muncie, Indiana this past weekend at the Regional USATF Outdoor Championships, beating out their competitors in shot put, long jump, javelin, 80 meter hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races


***The event, scheduled for July 23 - 29 at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina, marks the 52nd year of the competition with youth participating from all around the country.  The southside however will be represented very well with the following qualifiers:


Logan Ramsey(8): 100m, 200m, 400m (set personal record)

Alex Hunter(8): Shot Put, Javelin (set personal record)

Lyric Artwell (9): Shot Put, Javelin (set personal record)

Christian Edwards (9): 800m, 1500m (set personal record)

Addison Allen(10): Shot Put

Nefertari Weathersby(10): Long Jump

Audrey Hunter(11): 80m Hurdles (set personal record)

Tyrell Major(12): 400m

Dion Trotter Jr(12): 80m Hurdles

Reina Allen(14): Shot Put

John Green(14): 200m, 400m

Jesse Guereca(14): 400m

Jasmine Davis(16): Javelin, Shot Put


“With so much negative news about our youth and the south side, we’re thrilled to be the example of a program that keeps kids engaged in activities that build character, teaches them responsibility and creates a strong work ethic. It has been an exciting outdoor season for the club watching these kids train tirelessly four days a week, 2 hours each day, in Jackson Park. Everyone has evolved and improved upon their past efforts with many setting personal records on the state and regional levels” says Heraldo Morrison, head coach and founder of the track club.


8 year old Logan Ramsey, the newest member of the club, joined in April of this year and in three short months worked hard to bring home three gold medals in all her races. “It has been so much fun and I love running and I cannot wait to run again
